Legal Matters

Hiring a trustworthy lawyer is a very important part of the process. The attorney will ensure the transfer of the property will abide by the Costa Rica laws and will protect your investment. They will also perform a due diligence of the property to make sure everything is in order.

The buyer usually chooses the lawyer and legal fees are usually assumed by the buyer. This may also be negotiable between the seller and the buyer.

Associated costs (these may vary):
  • 2% of sale price for attorney fees
  • 1.5% of sale price for transfer fees to a new corporation or
  • 2.5% of sale price for transfer fees to a physical person
